Board of Directors

The SMUSA Board of Directors (BOD) is the highest governing body of the organization. It consists of up to nine students who are elected from the membership to serve for a term of two years. The BOD is tasked with setting the direction every year and holding the President accountable to fulfill the mandate of the BOD. The Board is structured under a “Policy Governance” foundation whereas the board members write policy consisting of:
Executive Limitations - policies that optimize empowerment for management by setting limits
Governance Process - policies that determine the Board’s job
Board-Management Delegation -link Governance to the Chief Executive Officer
Ends Policies - the real bottom-line by defining what the organization is for and not what it does.

The President acts as the Chief Executive Officer and interprets this policy in day-to-day management. the BOD focuses on the future and not the past and the present.

The BOD mandate is to implement these policies for SMUSA to ensure your organization is working to improve the quality of life on campus for each student at Saint Mary’s University.
