SMUSA Student Satisfaction Survey results
SMUSA wrapped up the 2009-2010 Student Satisfaction Survey on January 31, 2010 and is happy to announce the results. Respondents were asked for quantifiable answers for a series of questions, followed by several questions asking for written feedback. This survey is an opportunity for students to provide direct and measurable feedback to SMUSA, which will be used to help steer the organization moving forward.
Samantha McCormick was the lucky winner of the draw. Samantha chose a netbook computer as her prize.
Some highlights from the survey are below. The full results are available at the bottom of the page in two linked PDF files; one files shows all ranked questions and their respective responses, the other is every written answer provided by respondents. These are unedited, anonymous responses which are .
• 75% of respondents either agree or strongly agree that SMUSA is an effective Student Association. A further 12% responded neutrally to the question.
• A fair mix of Haligonians (24%), Nova Scotians (45%), other Canadians (13%), and International Students (18%) were represented.
• 76% of respondents live off-campus, while 24% are in residence.
• Many great suggestions for what SMUSA could do to improve student experience which we are already responding to: more promotion of events and SMUSA itself, holding more all-ages events (SMUSA hears you: we have many planned for February and March, and have committed to holding several per month in the future!), more guest speakers (we have 1 in February, and 1 in March! cult movie star Jason Mewes on February 15th to talk about becoming cult sensation Jay from the duo of Jay and Silent Bob, to overcoming drug addiction; and on March 19: jay Ingram, host of Discovery Channel's Daily Planet comes to speak during Sustainability Week!)
• Many students have raised concerns over tuition costs, lack of used books available for courses, and book costs in general.
