St. Lucia Hurricane Relief Concert & Events

On the 31st of October, 2010, Hurricane Tomas swept through the islands of Barbados, St Vincent and St Lucia. Out of these three islands, St Lucia sustained immense damage which urged the Government to declare a State of Emergency. Homes were destroyed leaving many people homeless, lives were lost, roads were overcome by land slippage, some roads were washed away and many other forms of damage in excess of US$100 million were suffered by the island.

The St Lucian students at Saint Mary’s University have come together in an effort to raise an awareness of this disaster in effect to raise funds to help rebuild their nation. A relief concert is scheduled to be held on the 26th of November at The Gorsebrook Lounge starting from 9pm. There will be performances by many artists from around Halifax including St Lucian artist Kayo. The St Lucian students ask that the university community aid by showing up at this concert and by dropping off any donations at the International Centre on the 3rd floor of the Student Union Building. Also, be sure to attend Open Mic on November 10th where cover will be donated to the St Lucia Relief Fund. There will also be bake sales held in the Loyola Colonnade. This money will be sent to the St Lucia’s National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) to help them help St Lucia.
The St Lucian community here at SMU thank you all in advance for your sympathy and kindness in this time of need.
