The union that represents bus operators, ferry crews, fleet mechanics and other Metro Transit employees will be in a legal strike position on Thursday, February 2.

At the August 17th HRM Council meeting, it was determined that students at Metro Halifax institutions (SMU, Dal, MSVU, NSCC, King's, Daltech, NSCAD) would not see a hike in fees this coming academic year.
Here at SMU, SMUSA can only approve an increase in fees up to CPI, nothing beyond. In order to approve the hike, SMU students would have to vote in a referendum.

The Saint Mary’s University Students’ Association (SMUSA) has been put into a dilemma where an increase in fess for the U-Pass cannot be negotiated. The proposed increase by Metro Transit raises the cost of the U-Pass to our students from $116.95 to $134, a 15% hike.
