Volunteering/ Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) Squad
The RAK Squad is a joint project of the Pride In Your Shared Neighbourhood Committee and your students’ association. This squad aims to have at least one event every two weeks, but members are able to participate as much or as little as their little hearts desire.
Typical events include:
- Free hot chocolate give-a-ways on cold winter days
- Nursing home visits
- Local soup kitchens
The RAK Squad also participates in charity events like UNICEF’s Spread the Net campaign, Bide-A-Wile Bowling for Critter’s, and the Make a Wish Foundation.
Signing up is easy. Fill download and fill out our Volunteer application form, and tell us about the types of activities you want to get involved in. You can bring the completed form to our office on the 5th floor of the Student Centre. Once your name is on the mailing list, event information will periodically be emailed to you. You simply respond if you are interested and available to help/participate in an event—no strings attached. Students who volunteer a minimum of 40 hours over an academic year are provided with written references.
Need volunteer experience in your field of study?
These days’ good grades aren’t everything! Graduate programs are now making students get experience in their field of study. Whether you need experience in a certain career field or working with a certain population, we can help you find these opportunities.
Please email Carrigan Desjardins, our Volunteer Coordinator at volunteering.smusa@smu.ca or call 496-8247 to set-up an appointment.
