Fellow Santamarians,

My name is Sarah MacDonald, and I will be serving as the Vice President Academic Affairs of Saint Mary’s University Students’ Association (SMUSA) this year! I am currently in my second year of the Master of Arts in International Development Studies program. You may have seen me around campus in a number of ways this past year, and I hope to be evermore present for this coming year as VP Academic Affairs! I am looking forward to serving you – as a member of SMUSA – in your academic career here at Saint Mary’s University!

This scholastic year brings challenging times for any student. The academic arena at Saint Mary’s tries their absolute best to provide for students. In case any issues do arrive during your career here at Saint Mary’s, I am here to help you. The Vice President Academic Affairs position is also the representative voice of you – the student – through a number of venues across campus. These venues include Academic Senate, Academic Appeals Committee, Academic Planning Committee, and many others. On these committees, I am a representative for the will of the students; ensuring your voices be heard.

There are many academic issues for all students here at Saint Mary’s University. Whether it be reaching a personal goal, finding academic guidance and help (such as tutors), or having trouble with your professors or administration in an academic issue, the Vice President Academic Affairs position is here to help you. I can give you the best information on campus to ensure the best outcome possible here at Saint Mary’s University. SMUSA has a great number of resources available to help advance your academic career. These include the Book Exchange, and the Tutor Database – both available online at smusa.ca!

I am here to answer your questions or concerns about any of these issues or services. I urge you to visit me in my office on the 5th floor of the Student Centre or contact me by phone or email. I also plan to be continually updating an information website about my position in the upcoming weeks and months of my term. Its URL is: vicepresidentacademic.wordpress.com. Please refer to it for up-to-date information about academic-related happenings on campus!

I wish you the best of luck this year at Saint Mary’s University! But remember, if your luck hits a snag, please ask any of us at SMUSA – we are here to help you!

Sincerely,

Sarah
