HALIFAX TRANSIT U-PASS

The Halifax Transit “U-Pass”, short for “University Pass”, is special pass – in the form of a sticker that goes on a student ID – that provides full-time students with unlimited access to Halifax Transit for the academic year, from September to April. Students who are registered for 2 or more on-campus spring and summer session courses are eligible for the Summer U-Pass sticker, which provides unlimited access to Halifax Transit during the summer months, from May to August.

What’s So Great About U-Pass?

  • You’ll save money. Students using the U-Pass instead of buying monthly Student MetroPasses can save over $60 each month, which is close to $500 per school year.
  • It’s convenient. Halifax Transit has enhanced its service to Saint Mary’s University since the introduction of the U-Pass.
  • Car owners save money too. The U-Pass can help you reduce your fuel, parking, insurance, and maintenance expenses. Plus, you can let someone else worry about the traffic.
  • It’s good for the environment. Choosing public transit instead of driving your own car reduces air pollution. One bus can help remove up to 50 cars from the road at any point in time, reducing air pollution by 15-20 per cent.

Who is eligible for a U-Pass?

  • All full-time students (registered in 3 or more on-campus courses per semester) automatically have the $160.00 U-Pass fee added onto their student account for the fall and winter semesters.
  • Students who are registered in fewer than 3 courses in the fall semester but are registered in 3 or more on-campus courses in the winter semester are only charged $80.00 for the U-Pass from January to April.
  • Students who are beginning their studies in the winter semester, and are registered in 3 or more on-campus courses, are also charged the $80.00 rate.
