Today we, the Saint Mary’s University Students’ Association (SMUSA), are acknowledging and addressing the ongoing impact of Hurricane Dorian that has been both directly and indirectly affecting students of Saint Mary’s University over the past few days.

We recognize that this has been distressing for Bahamian students in particular, as their families, friends and peers back home may have been directly affected. We encourage anyone who feels affected by this situation to make use of available on-campus supports, such as the following:

We will soon be launching a student-led campaign to support those affected by the ongoing impact of Hurricane Dorian. The purpose of this campaign will be to raise awareness of this natural disaster, and to raise funds for current hurricane relief efforts in the Bahamas.

If you would like to help support your fellow students and residents of the Bahamas, please join us tomorrow at 5pm in the Student Common Space (5th floor Student Centre) to help brainstorm campaign ideas. Everyone is welcome!

Additionally, we will be collecting funds for the HeadKnowles emergency fund at our Societies & Partners Expo this Thursday (10am-4pm) in the Quad. We encourage everyone to stop by and show their support.
