A few weeks ago, we made a commitment to act and support the Black community at SMU and in Halifax. We committed to amplifying Black voices, engaging with local organizations and racialized students, and to calling out institutional and systemic racism when we see it. Some of the important ways we can work to make ourselves and our community stronger are by educating ourselves, supporting local organizations, and getting involved in activism. It’s also important to practice self-care, especially if you are feeling tired or drained mentally as a result of the constant media coverage as it relates to systemic racism or if you may be experiencing a general worry about your own safety in the public.

We’ve put together a compilation of local organizations/ funds that can be supported at this time, educational resources, and supports that are available to Black students in the community. Check the links below to access them!
